Cops hunt hammer gang after man battered in Lanarkshire home

Police are hunting a gang of hammer-wielding thugs who battered a Scot leaving him with head injuries.

Four men assaulted a 39-year-old man in his home in the Gartness area of Airdrie, North Lanarkshire earlier this week.

The brutes, who were unidentifiable, gained entry to the property in Moffat Place at around 5pm on Tuesday, December 8 before launching the violent attack.

The victim suffered injuries to his head and needed hospital treatment.

Police are treating the hammer attack as targeted and assure locals that there is no risk to the wider public.

Officers probing the incident are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Constable Paul James said: "Our investigation into this incident are ongoing and we would urge anyone with information or who saw any suspicious activity around the area on Tuesday to come forward.

"Our enquiries so far suggest this was a targeted attack with no risk to the wider public.

"Anyone with information can call police on 101, quoting incident 1310 of December 8, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
