Cops hunt for South Lanarkshire cabbie who "drove at speed" at rival taxi drivers

The hunt is on for a South Lanarkshire private hire driver who deliberately drove at four rival cabbies.

Police Scotland confirmed they are on the hunt for the driver of a car registered to South Lanarkshire Council following the incident in the early hours of Monday.

The incident happened outside The Sanctuary nightclub in Glasgow and left the four victims “shaken”. Now officers are appealing for information, including dashcam footage.

A police spokesman said the incident happened around 2.30am on July 1 after an argument between a number of private car hire drivers outside the nightclub on Dumbarton Road.

One of the drivers left the area in his grey Citroen Picasso car heading towards the city centre, however, returned and drove “at speed” towards the men – one of whom was standing on the road.

Detective Sergeant Bernadette Walls said: “Thankfully no one was hurt, but it could have had terrible consequences if the car had hit the men, or indeed any of the clubbers or door staff who were about at the time.

“Although we have spoken to a number of people who were at the club at the time, we are still keen to hear from anyone who may have been driving by.

“We are especially keen to speak to those who have dashcams to see if they have captured the car, which had a South Lanarkshire Council licence plate, in the area at the time of the incident.”

Anyone with any information on the incident or the cabbie, should contact police on 101.

Information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
