Cops hunt firebugs after flat attacked in Scots town

A probe has been launched after a flat was attacked by firebugs in Paisley last night.

Officers from Police Scotland are appealing for witnesses after a fire was set at the door in a close in Ferguslie Walk in the Renfrewshire town between 7pm and 7.30pm.

Firefighters tackled the blaze which burned both the inside and outside of the door.

Nobody was in the property at the time of the attack and there were no injuries.

Detective Constable Dougie McGlynn, Paisley CID, said he was grateful the fire hadn't spread further in the building.

He said: "Thankfully this fire didn't take hold and spread further in to the flat or to the other homes in the close.

"At the moment officers are carrying out house to house enquiries and checking CCTV in an effort to identify whoever did this.

"The street is off a busy road and near local shops.

"If you were in the area around that time and maybe saw someone hanging about the close or if you have dash-cam footage from the street, then please give us a call."
