Cops hunt firebug after bid to torch front door of flat in Scots town

Police are investigating an attempted fire-raising in a block of flats in an Angus town.

There was an attempt to set fire to the door within a common close on Whites Place, Montrose, at around 3.30am on Monday January 3.

The firebug attempted to set fire to the front door of a property inside the block.

But the flames failed to catch on - resulting in minimal damage and no reported injuries.

However, police in Tayside have opened an investigation into the incident in an attempt to identify the person responsible.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the hours before the fire took place.
