Cops hunt armed robber after £1,000 raid on Community Shop in Edinburgh

Cops are hunting a masked armed robber who fled a store with more than £1,000.

The thug burst into the West Granton Community Shop in Edinburgh and threatened a member of staff with a blunt weapon.

The worker was left unhurt but traumatised by the ordeal at around 12.10pm today.

Detective Sergeant Gavin Howat said: “Thankfully no-one was injured during this incident but the staff member was left shaken."

The suspect is described as white with facial hair.

He was wearing a cap, dark top, bottoms and trainers and a black face mask.

Police think he cased the shop before striking.

Detective Sergeant Howat added: "We believe the man was waiting in the vicinity prior to the incident."

Officers are now investigating and want any witnesses to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Howat said: “Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and I would ask anyone who recognises the description of the suspect to come forward immediately.

“We are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious or has any information which may be able to assist to get in touch.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 1403 of 16 September.
