Cops go on patrol to Protect Our Pensioners and back Express' bogus callers campaign

Community cops and Renfrewshire Wardens will hand out hundreds of Protect Our Pensioners stickers to elderly and vulnerable people in our fight against bogus crime.

PAISLEY DAILY EXPRESS: Live news as it happens

The Paisley Daily Express is teaming up with Police Scotland and region’s wardens service make sure the warning labels are given out to those who need them most.

The stickers offer clear advice on what to do if a potential doorstep criminal comes to your house.

They also allow space to write the name and number of a Nominated Neighbour to call if you feel threatened or pressured.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley’s community policing team, said the stickers will have a real impact in preventing doorstep crime across Renfrewshire.

She said: “The information labels will help to remind our elderly and vulnerable residents to be cautious when answering their doors to unknown persons.

“A simple thing such as this, can have a significant impact on the prevention of crime and the safety of our local residents.

“The labels have clear and concise safety information which can be stuck directly onto the inside of the front or rear door which will act as a gentle reminder to the householder.

“The labels have the added bonus of containing a section where friends or family can add the name and telephone number of a nominated neighbour.

“This will help to provide reassurance to the resident if they have any doubts regarding the caller.

“Over the next few weeks Local Community Police Officers and Renfrewshire Council Wardens will be distributing the labels to vulnerable residents.

“I would like to remind the local community to be vigilant in the event of cold callers canvassing in their area, if in any doubt please contact police Scotland on telephone number 101 or in an emergency 999. Alternatively you can remain anonymous by calling Crimestoppers on telephone number 0800 555 111.
