Cops: Girl, 16, attacked jogging in unincorporated Lake County

July 18--Lake County officials are asking for the public's help after a teenage girl was attacked while jogging Friday in an unincorporated area near Lake Barrington.

The incident happened at 3 p.m. on the 26000 block of Lakeland Drive after the 16-year-old girl was attacked by an unknown man, Lake County sheriff's officials said Saturday.

According to preliminary information the girl was jogging along the roadway when she was grabbed from behind by the man. The girl was wearing headphones at the time and did not hear the attacker approaching, police said.

The man tried to drag the girl into the woods but she was able to fight him off and run away, police said. The victim contacted her mother, who then contacted sheriff's officials.

The man was described as a white man, in his early 40s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with light brown or blond hair. He was wearing a white t-shirt, black shorts and black gym shoes.

After the attack officials began searching the area with police dogs and were assisted by Wauconda and Tower Lakes police. The suspect was not found.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lake County sheriff's criminal investigations division at (877)377-4250 or Lake County communications center at (847)549-5200.
