Cops found petrol bomb in woman's kitchen after she sent pics of knife and fuel can to former pal

Police looking to quiz a woman about threats to a friend found a petrol bomb in the kitchen of her Hamilton home.

Kimberly Whitelaw and her victim had fallen out after being pals for years.

Whitelaw, 34, of Douglas Crescent, appeared from custody at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday.

She admitted a course of aggressive conduct towards her former friend between March 27 and 29 this year.

Whitelaw also admitted an offence under the explosive substances act in relation to her possession of a petrol bomb.

The court heard she loitered near the woman's home, sent her photos of a knife and a fuel can, and warned in a phone call she would blow up her ex-pal's home.

Neil Thomson, prosecuting, said the victim received a number of abusive messages via social media over a three-day period.

These included a reference to her being taken to Bent Cemetery.

Mr Thomson told the court: "This was reported to the police and officers went to Whitelaw's home on March 29.

"There was a strong smell of petrol and they found Whitelaw in the kitchen. There was also a glass bottle containing petrol that had a piece of cloth inserted in the neck."

Whitelaw, who admitted previous convictions, was the subject of four separate bail orders at the time.

Defence agent Jackson Bateman said calls had been made to his client and she "overreacted".

She admitted possession of the petrol bomb, but claimed it had been brought to her home by another person.

Sheriff Thomas Millar deferred sentence until later this month for a criminal justice social work report.

Whitelaw, who will be assessed for an electronic tag, was remanded in custody.
