Cops fear missing woman who survived deliberate house fire may have been murdered

A woman who nearly died in a house fire two years ago may have been murdered.

Susan Waring was said to have been “barricaded” inside a burning house in Dumbarton in July 2017.

She was trapped in a first-floor bedroom and was rescued by firefighters and put in an induced coma by medics.

Detectives believed it was an attempt on her life.

Now, Susan may have been murdered after she vanished in January in Darwen, Lancashire.

No body has been found but police believe Susan, 45, has been killed.

The last confirmed sighting was on January 16, when she left a GP’s surgery.

Susan was in regular contact with her sister on Facebook but has not logged on since towards the end of January.

Last week, a man aged 46 was arrested on suspicion of murder.

He was released under investigation by police.

Susan is described as being about 5ft 5in, of small build, with brown eyes and curly, collar-length brown hair.

She speaks with a north-west accent and has tattoos on both arms and legs, including smiley faces on her legs.

A woman with dark hair was spotted on CCTV on January 29 at an Asda store and detectives are trying to establish whether it was Susan.

Sightings of her in Dumbarton have been reported but police do not believe them to be Susan.

Detective Chief Inspector Geoff Hurst said: “No one has seen or heard from Susan for weeks which is very unusual.

“I would ask that people study her photograph and cast their minds back to that day.

“If you saw this woman, or have any other information that could be helpful to our investigation, please come forward.”
