AJMER: Police are ensuring strict implementation of Covid norms amid the 810 Urs celebration of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisty in Ajmer. They are emptying the dargah premises at night and following night curfew in the dargah region.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, there was a beeline for offering 'chaddars'. Thousands of devotees were trying to rush inside the dargah. In the coming days, more chaddars from politicians and individuals are expected.
Some khadims on Thursday demanded that night curfew should be relaxed in the dargah region as devotees coming from different parts of the country were facing problems.
As police made the dargah premises empty before 8 pm, the dargah and other market associations staged a protest.
The market association alleged that police were forcing them to close their shops at night and also forcing them to allow limited customers. Dargah police said they must implement social distancing as the infection in Ajmer was increasing. About 5,000 police personnel are deputed to control the mob and to follow the guidelines of Covid.
Artist Nirbhaya Wadhwa brought a chaddar, which was offered through khadim Syed Qutubdin Sakhi after the procession in the dargah bazaar. To attend the special prayers on Friday, devotees from across the country thronged the city and most of the hotels and guest houses are packed.
Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus cases is increasing and on Wednesday a fatality was reported with 350 new infection cases, of which 42 are children. A khadim said this time there was low rush from Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat during the Urs, but devotees from Maharashtra and south-Indian states were coming to attend the occasion.
