Cops dressed as Father Christmas and elves bust drug kingpin dubbed 'the Chicago Grinch'

Police officers dressed as Father Christmas and his elves have successfully busted a drug kingpin dubbed 'the Chicago Grinch'.

Cops in Peru, South America cracked down on a drug operation while donning the festive costumes, as they kicked down a door and tackled the gang themselves.

In a major criminal operation in the South American country, Peru's National Police wore the disguises so not to arouse suspicion, before raiding a house in the Surquillo neighbourhood of the capital Lima on Saturday.

The officers, complete with Father Christmas, Mrs Claus and elves then filmed themselves barging into the home.

Footage of ‘The fall of the Chicago Grinch’ - which is akin to a comedy sketch - shows the group walking innocently down a street of Surquillo, which has the nickname of 'Little Chicago' in an allusion to the violent gangs that ran the American city in the 1920s, until suddenly they stop at a house.

Festive agents can then be seen bringing out a huge hammer, with Mrs Claus swinging it against the door to enter.

The Christmas crew then storm in through the door, followed by other uniformed officers who spread out around the home to catch the gang.

They can be heard telling the occupants to freeze and lay down on the floor as they proceed to crowd around the dealers.

One elf can be seen cuffing the hands of a man as he lays on the ground, while another battles with a dealer nearby.

The unusual but successful drug bust saw police detain four suspects, and they seized a large quantity of cocaine and marijuana.

More precisely, police said that the agents seized 6,000 small packets of cocaine paste, 104 of cocaine powder and 279 of marijuana.

Speaking about the raid, police official David Villanueva told Peruvian TV: "It being Christmas, a Santa in the street does not attract much attention, and we used this to our advantage for this operation."

He added the suspects, three men and a woman, initially thought it was a joke.

This is not the first time this same police group has used costumes to make arrests.

In November the agents ‘disguised’ themselves as Marvel characters to bust a drug gang.

Peru is one of the world's biggest cocaine producers, alongside Colombia and Bolivia.
