Cops continuing to probe 'unexplained' death of baby girl in Perthshire

Cops are continuing to probe the "unexplained" death of a baby girl in Perthshire.

Emergency services were called to the property on Bridgeton Brae in Almondbank at around 9.40am yesterday.

Police, paramedics and doctors attended as the five-month old baby was tragically pronounced dead on the scene.

Officers are currently carrying out door-to-door inquiries.

Local residents reported seeing a heavy police presence in the usually quiet area around the time of the incident.

One neighbour said he heard a man and woman shouting when he was returning from the post office.

“It was at about 9.20am,” he said.

“It wasn’t long before the police arrived, but I don’t know if that is connected.

“There was an ambulance and three or four police cars all parked up on Lumsden Crescent. The ambulance and a doctor’s car were blocking the road, but there were no police cordons or tape up.

“One of the police officers had a pistol strapped to his thigh. It wasn’t yellow like the tasers they have. I could see the paramedics going in and out of the ambulance.

“There were more senior officers there not long after and police were going door-to-door until the last car left just after noon.”

The entrance to Lumsden Crescent was blocked for around two hours by police cars, ambulances and 4x4s.

Officers in the area were seen carrying out door-to-door inquiries, clutching dossiers of paperwork and wearing blue latex gloves.

At the southern end of Bridgeton Brae, two paramedics could also be seen carrying emergency medical response kits.

A police spokesperson said: “At around 9.40am on Monday February 15, police received a report a five-month-old baby girl had died in Bridgeton Brae, Almondbank.

“The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing."
