Cops continue to trace driver who left Lanarkshire schoolboy in hospital

The driver of a car who hospitalised a teenager in a hit and run has yet to come forward.

Lanarkshire Live told you yesterday how a 13-year-old boy was struck by a small silver vehicle on Main Street, Bothwell.

The incident happened around 2.50pm on Monday (April 5) near to the Clydesdale Bank in the town.

That saw the teenager rushed to hospital with “serious injuries” and cops scrambling to trace the driver responsible.

However, despite a widespread appeal for the driver to come forward, no one yet has.

The incident happened in the town's Main Street (Hamilton Advertiser)

A police spokeswoman said the child “sustained serious injuries” and remained in Wishaw General.

She added that there had been no developments regarding the incident and enquiries to trace the driver remained “ongoing.”

Inspector George McCutcheon told Lanarkshire Live : “We are looking for the public’s help to trace the driver of the vehicle, who failed to stop after the collision.

“I would ask anyone with any dashcam and mobile phone footage of the incident, or anyone who was in the area around the time of the collision, to please get in touch with officers.

“I would also make a direct appeal to the driver of the car involved to do the right thing and come forward.”

Anyone with any information should call police on 101.

Information can be left anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
