Cops continue probe into shamed Covidiot MP Margaret Ferrier

Police are continuing to investigate an MP who used public transport after testing positive for coronavirus.

Shamed Margaret Ferrier has refused to step down from Parliament despite being suspended by the SNP.

The Rutherglen and Hamilton West MP travelled from Glasgow to London by train with Covid-19 symptoms in September and then made the return journey after testing positive.

The politician referred to the incident as a “blip” and claimed the virus had made her act out of character.

The Metropolitan Police in London said they would not take action but Police Scotland have confirmed the case remains under investigation.

In response to a letter from Labour MSP Jackie Baillie, Assistant Chief Constable Alan Speirs wrote: “Police Scotland is aware of the decision made by the Metropolitan Police Service.

“We are now assessing the circumstances and are in consultation with the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service. As this is a matter under consideration, you will appreciate that I cannot comment further at this time.

“Please be assured we remain committed to doing all that we can in keeping people safe.”

Labour MSP James Kelly said: “Four weeks after Margaret Ferrier’s reckless behaviour came to light, it is disgraceful that she is still in post.

"With police still investigating the case, her constituents are stuck with an absentee MP.

“Local people are angry that they are left with an MP whose selfish behaviour could have made harsh restrictions more likely.”
