Cops confirm identity of body found on Scots island following missing person search

Police have formally identified the body of a man found on the Isle of Bute as missing man Paul Connolly.

The tragic discovery was made on February 2, almost two months after the 45-year-old vanished from the island.

A large scale police search and numerous appeals were made to try and locate 'vulnerable' Paul, who lived alone in Rothesay.

His frantic loved ones scoured the island for clues while searches were also carried out on the mainland in Largs and Greenock .

The body was found at around 11.50am near Kingarth earlier this month.

Police have thanked members of the public for efforts to try and find Paul.

Chief Inspector Douglas Wilson said : “Our thoughts are very much still with Paul’s family and friends.

“I would like to thank members of the public who shared and forwarded our appeals for information to trace Paul and those in the local community.

“I would also like to thank partner agencies who assist in the searches.”
