Cops confirm 14ft snake captured in Greenock amid multiple sightings of constrictor-type reptiles

Police Scotland has confirmed that a 14ft snake has been captured and that they are dealing with reports of number of large snakes are on the loose in Greenock.

Officers are dealing with multiple reports of massive constrictor type reptiles on the streets of the Inverclyde town.

They have warned locals not to approach the animals after footage appeared online of one being cornered on a street.

It is understood the pictures were taken near a pub on the Drumfrochar Road.

Police Scotland revealed the snake, which is approximately 14’ long, is currently being examined and cared for at a local veterinary practice.

A spokesman said at this stage there have been a number of other similar reports relating to snakes being spotted in the local community.

Inspector Paul Thompson at Greenock Police Station said: “Officers are currently dealing with the reports of a number of sightings of large snakes in the Greenock and Gourock area.

“I would urge anyone who may come across a snake not to approach it, but to call police reporting its position.

“At this stage we are carrying out local enquiries in order to establish if anyone is missing any snakes.

A source told the Record that one of the snakes has died.

It is unclear how many are loose.

The No Context Inverclyde Twitter account released a video of the slithery customers.

In the video a man with a distinct West Coast accent can be heard saying 'f****** h*** man look at the size of it."

Many locals saw the lighter side of the incident.
