Cops close part of M74 after 'serious' crash between two motorbikes and a car

Part of a major Scots road has been closed off after a 'serious' three vehicle crash on the M74.

As of 3pm there is no entry between junctions 12 to 10, south of Lesmahagow, due to the collision between two motorbikes and a car.

The southbound carriageway at junction nine has also been closed.

Emergency services have raced to the scene but it is currently unclear if there are any serious injuries.

A tweet from Traffic Scotland around 3pm advised drivers to avoid the busy road.

It read: "#M74 RTC

"The #M74 CLOSED N/B between J12-10 due to a serious RTC

"The S/B carraigeway has been CLOSED at J9 to assist

"Emergency services remain at the scene.

"Traffic heavy in the area so do #usealtroute if possible

"#PlanAhead #TakeCare"

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.40pm on Saturday, 24 July, officers were called to the M74 northbound between junctions 11 and 10, following a report of a road crash involving two motorbikes and a car.

"Emergency services remain at the scene and the road is currently closed.”

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were in attendance at the scene.
