Cops close busy Scots roads bridge after 'disturbance' with man later taken to hospital

Commuters faced huge tail backs as a major Scots bridge was closed due to a 'disturbance' this morning.

Dramatic pictures from the scene show massive queues by Chapelhall in North Lanarkshire with cops closing the the bridge at the Eurocentral Junction.

A man has been taken to hospital and cops are working out to find out exactly what happened.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We received a report of a disturbance on the M8 westbound at junction 7, near Holytown, around 5pm on Tuesday, 10 August, 2021.

"A 30-year-old man sustained serious injuries and was taken to University Hospital Wishaw for treatment. Enquires are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and the flyover is currently closed at M8 junction 7.”

Traffic Scotland reported around 8am that the bridge has been closed due to a 'police incident' and there were delays of around 15 minutes.

It is unclear at this time the nature of the incident.

At 7.55am the body tweeted: "A8 congestion

"Slow traffic eastbound at Chapelhall due to a closure on the bridge at the Eurocentral Junction for a police incident."

This was updated at 8.40am with drivers advised of delays.

A second tweet read: "A8 congestion. Slow traffic eastbound at Chapelhall due to a closure on the bridge at the Eurocentral Junction for a police incident. Delays approx 15 mins."

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
