Cops chasing Skoda before Castlemilk crash with BMW carrying dad and 10-year-old son

Police were chasing a Skoda when they collided with another car carrying a dad and his 10-year-old son.

Investigators are probing the circumstances leading up the crash during rush hour in Carmunnock Road, Castlemilk yesterday.

The drama unfolded when the Skoda failed to stop on Stravanan Road at 5.35pm.

Officers launched a short pursuit, which ended when their motor collided with a blue BMW 3 Series, completely unconnected with the incident.

The police car landed on its roof and pictures show both vehicles extensively damaged.

The 39-year-old BMW driver and his son were taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Royal Hospital for Children, respectively.

Three police officers were also taken to hospital for treatment.

The Skoda left the scene and did not return.

Now traffic cops have appealed for witnesses to come forward and the incident has been reported to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC).

Chief Inspector Darren Faulds, of Glasgow’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash, along with the vehicle which failed to stop, are ongoing.

“I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the crash or was in the area around the time of the crash to contact police.

"Also, anyone with dashcam footage which could assist our investigation should get in touch."
