A man has been arrested following the theft of an ambulance in Aberdeenshire.

Officers from Police Scotland attended a call at around 6.20am this morning, November 18, to reports of an ambulance being stolen while on a callout in the Kemnay area.

A pursuit of around 40 miles was then undertaken over the Cabrach into Moray before the vehicle was recovered in Dufftown.

Scottish Ambulance Service has branded the incident a “deplorable act”.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 6.20am on Wednesday, 18 November, 2020, an ambulance was stolen from outside an address in Kemnay, near Inverurie.

"Following a pursuit by officers, the vehicle was stopped near Dufftown.

"A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are continuing.

"The ambulance had been at the address providing assistance."

A Scottish Ambulance spokesman said: “Stealing an ambulance is a deplorable act.

“If anyone has information on this incident we would encourage them to contact police.”
