Cops called to break up 'whopper' of a traffic jam after dozens of cars queue outside Scots Burger King

A Scots Burger King was forced to close on its first week of reopening after dozens of cars descended on the drive-thru.

Hungry punters formed a huge tailback outside the Elgin branch of the chain earlier today.

Cops were called to disperse the traffic jam around midday and the shop had to be temporarily closed.

The queue snaked long down the street and outside the restaurant.

A Police spokesman said: "Police attended after large amounts of traffic (gathered).

"The store closed and traffic dispersed."

Last month, Burger King reopened four Scottish restaurants in Dundee, Aberdeen and Glasgow as it tested safe social distancing.

The Elgin drive-thru reopened on Monday along with four others.

Next Monday more drive thrus in Glasgow, Inverness, Irvine and Kilmarnock will reopen.

Last month cops were called to disperse queues formed outside a Glasgow Burger King.

Other branches had been reopened but for delivery only.
