Cops called as man takes wife’s body for burial

HYDERABAD: What could have been a routine burial ended up in police being called up by locals in Hayathnagar on Friday. While police registered it as suspicious death initially, it soon turned out to be a case of natural death.

The confusion started after people saw a man carrying a woman wrapped in bed sheets on his shoulders along with another man in Hayathnagar. Quizzed by cops who soon arrived at the scene, Srinivas, a mason, revealed that the woman was his wife Lakshmi (35) who had died after being ill for a while. He said that he along with his friend Vinod were taking her to bury next to the water body when locals stopped them, Vanasthalipuram police said.

“There is no foul play. Srinivas, a native of Nellore in AP, had come to the city about six months ago. He did not know how to complete death formalities and decided to bury his wife Lakshmi next to the lake near his house on the advice of his friend Vinod,” ACP (Vanasthalipuram division) K Purushotham Reddy told TOI. Forensic experts declared she had died naturally after prolonged illness.
