Cops blast selfish Devil's Pulpit parkers after emergency vehicles struggle to get past

Cops have blasted 'inconsiderate' drivers at a famed Scots beauty spot after emergency vehicles heading to a rescue struggled to get past due to badly parked cars.

Fears have been raised previously over the parking at the Finnich Glen near Killearn, Stirlingshire, known locally as the Devil's Pulipit,- which was catapulted to fame with the filming of hit programme Outlander.

Police, ambulance crews and the Lomond Mountain Rescue Team were scrambled to the scene on Monday at around 1pm to reports someone had fallen and injured themselves.

But cops say the efforts to get to the person were 'hampered' by drivers parking in emergency vehicle laybys and 'inconsiderate parking'.

The person was rescued by the mountain rescue team but police have warned motorists to be wary in future.

A statement from the Forth Valley division read: "Given the location of the injured person, assistance was required from Lomond Mountain Rescue Team, however emergency services vehicles were hampered by vehicles parked in emergency vehicle laybys and by inconsiderate parking.

"If you are attending rural areas, please consider where you are parking your vehicle.

"Access roads/gates and emergency vehicle laybys are there in the event of an emergency and should not be used for parking.

"On this occasion, thankfully the injured person was safely rescued by (the mountain rescue team)."

During the coronavirus pandemic the spot has become increasingly popular with visitors.

But locals have warned that selfish parking could endanger lives.

One wrote of the latest situation: "Disgusting that these people still ignore the signs.

"Hope they all get fines as they deserve it. Glad person got rescued safely but it could have been much worse because of ignorant people."

In June, we reported on shocking video footage from the spot showing cars can parked up on a grassy verge and jutting out onto the A84 Stockiemuir Road, forcing drivers to slow down and manoeuvre around the vehicles or come to a standstill.
