Cops slam Rangers fans' fireworks display as 'dangerous and reckless' as they launch probe

Cops have slammed a 'dangerous and reckless' fireworks display from Rangers fans during the Light Blues clash with Livingston tonight.

We told earlier how the pyrotechnics were shot from a travelling support of hundreds of Rangers fans who had made the journey to Lothian for one of the final league games of the year.

Pictures show the explosives being let off close to a stand of Livingston's Toni Macaroni Arena where the Ibrox team's fans had gathered to watch the game through a clearing in the stands.

Cops, photographers and other Rangers fans appear to be in danger as the fireworks went off near to ground level.

The display was set off on the 55th minute- to celebrate Rangers 55th title win.

Police Scotland said they would be looking at CCTV footage to find those involved in setting off the pyrotechnics.

Match Commander Sergeant Jim Gowling said: "An investigation is under way after several pyrotechnics were let off during the Livingston v Rangers game.

"The inquiry will involve officers reviewing extensive CCTV footage to identify those involved in this reckless and dangerous behaviour."

Officially crowned on Saturday, senior politicians and club bosses have warned against any gatherings outside Ibrox.

With the coronavirus pandemic still ongoing, fears have been raised about parties- with the Rangers fans who travelled to Livingston not allowed in the stadium due to the restrictions.

Rangers won tonight's match 3-0 with goals from Tavernier, Kent and Hagi to continue their unbeaten run.
