Cops appeal for information over five possibly linked fires in Glasgow over three days

Police are investigating whether a series of fires deliberately set in Glasgow are linked.

The five fire-raising incidents in Garthamlock and Craigend occurred over a three-day period and are being treated as wilful.

The first blaze happened on Tuesday, June 22, at around 1am.

Police were called to the scene of the fire which was set on the front door of a property on Cumbusdoon Road.

Around twenty minutes later a blue Nissan Note car was set alight at the rear of Otterswick Place, closely followed by two further fires set to a white Fiat panel van and a white Vauxhall Combo van, which were nearby at the rear of properties on Porchester Street.

Two days later on June 24, today, police were called with reports of a red Vauxhall Vectra vehicle set on fire around 1.20am on Mossvale Walk.

We previously told how the fires had caused huge amounts of damage were caused to the cars and surrounding area.

Fire crews extinguished all five fires with no injuries resulting from the incidents.

Police say investigations into any links between the fires are ongoing and officers have called on anyone with information to contact them.

Detective Constable Grant Watson of Shettleston CID said: “These incidents of wilful fireraising have been completely reckless and I want to make it clear that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated in our communities.

“Thankfully no one was injured in these incidents but setting deliberate fires is highly dangerous and we are doing everything we can to find those responsible.

“I’d also like to reassure the public that there will be an increased police presence in the area to carry out investigations to tackle this problem and prevent any further instances occurring.

“I would encourage anyone who has information which could be of assistance to please come forward.

“If you do have any information, or if you may have seen anything or maybe have dashcam footage or private CCTV footage of any of the incidents please contact police as soon as possible.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 0191 of 22 June, or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
