Cops appeal after man seriously assaulted in early hours in Airdrie

Cops are appealing for information after a man was seriously assaulted in Airdrie .

Officers from Police Scotland were called to Black Street at its junction with Thrashbush Road at around 1.50am to reports of a man lying injured on the road.

Paramedics attended the scene and a 26-year-old was taken to Monklands Hospital where he is being treated for a head injury.

It's believed he was the victim of an attack , however cops have limited information on the suspect.

He is described as white, with a medium build wearing a dark coloured tracksuit, and he ran off in the direction of Thrashbush Road.

Officers are continuing to check CCTV footage for any additional information and are appealing to several motorists who were seen in the area around the time of the incident to come forward.

Detective Constable Craig McLean said: "We know there were several motorists in the area around the time of the incident and I’m appealing to the motorists who were there to contact us.

"They may have seen something and not realised its significance.

"If anyone has dash cam, I would urge them to check the footage as it could have captured something which could assist in our investigation.

"Anyone with information is asked to all CID officers at Coatbridge Police Station via 1014, quoting incident number 0660 of 4 August 2019. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously."
