Copenhagen star banned over Celtic Park police incident as UEFA take action on bizarre flashpoint

Copenhagen star Michael Santos has been banned by UEFA for clashing with a policeman at Celtic Park.

The Uruguayan was also charged with assaulting the officer by police in the aftermath of his side's Europa League last 16 victory in March.

Santos collided with the officer whilst celebrating the Danish side's 3-1 win win, with video footage showing the cop ending up on the floor as Copenhagen celebrated their second goal.

Pep Biel's strike sent Stale Solbakken's side into the last 16 at Celtic 's expense, with the tournament now postponed indefinitely.

European football's governing body have now reviewed the incident retrospectively and imposed a three-game suspension on Santos.

A statement said: "(Decision) - To suspend the FC Copenhagen player, Michael Santos, for a total of three (3) UEFA club competition matches (including any matches previously and automatically served by the player to date) for which he would be otherwise eligible, for assaulting another person present at the match."

Following the incident, Santos insisted he was not worried about potential repercussions.

He said: "It is important for me to emphasise that the club has said that I should not comment on the episode.

“But, I am not worried.”
