Copenhagen's horror form ahead of Celtic clash explained as Stale Solbakken slams fixture pile-up

Stale Solbakken insists Copenhagen's fixture overload has led to their poor form ahead of Thursday's Europa League clash against Celtic.

The Danes kicked off their domestic season at the start of July and have played 13 games in Europe this season.

Copenhagen haven't won in their three-games since returning from their two-month winter break and former Wolves and Cologne boss Solbakken reckons his side are running on empty.

But he still believes they can pull off a surprise a result against Neil Lennon's men to reach the last 16.

He said: "We have played far more matches than any other team in Denmark this season and I think that has cost us.

"We have played more or less every three days and will continue to do so and that has made it a really tough season for us to be honest.

"But I know we can surprise Celtic and beat them.

"We have to focus on that now and not the first leg or the two league games since the break.

"There's no point feeling sorry for ourselves. We just need to work hard.

"I would be upset and angry if I think we didn't play well in our last game against Silkeborg, but we were denied by some world class saves by their keeper.

"I can't blame the players - they were just unlucky."
