Copenhagen Airport Terminal 3 evacuated due to terror alert ‘sparked by suspicious bag’

A terminal of Copenhagen Airport has been evacuated due to a terror alert reportedly sparked by a suspicious bag.

Terminal 3 and the airport’s metro station were closed off, while flights were moved to other terminals.

A spokesman for the airport told The Independent that the terminal was later reopened as normal, though the closure was expected to cause some delays for the rest of the day.

He said he did not believe there had been a danger to the public. Copenhagen Police confirmed the incident in a tweet but provided no further comment.

The exact nature of the incident remained unclear, but it has highlighted the highetened sense of alert that exists throughout Europe and indeed the West in the days since the Paris attacks.

With Europe on edge, two major international football matches were called off on Tuesday night, while two Air France flights were forced to land due to bomb threats which later appeared to be hoaxes.

The sense of panic has been most severe in Paris itself, where a false alarm sparked a stampede in the Place de Republique on Monday, but in the US a group of people of Middle East origin were taken off a plane after a fellow passenger apparently raised concerns.

Copenhagen Airport officials said no flights had been cancelled, and expect operations to have returned to normal by Thursday.
