The Copa Libertadores final between Boca Juniors and River Plate will be played at Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu.

The second leg of South America’s biggest club fixture was scheduled to take place on Saturday but was postponed after the River team bus was attacked by River fans en route to Estadio Monumental, injuring several players.

The match was rearranged for Sunday only for the region’s governing body CONMEBOL to postpone the match again at the request of Boca just three hours from kick-off.

With concerns over security given the weekend’s events, talks between CONMEBOL and the respective club presidents this were held to discuss an alternative venue.

On Tuesday, Conmebol confirmed that they would look to move the fixture, South America's equivalent of the Champions League final, outside of Argentina, in order to avoid a repeat of the trouble that hospitalised two Boca players and left others exposed to tear gas.

There had previously been speculation that the game would be moved to Qatar but it has now been confirmed the final will take place at Real’s home ground on 9 December, at 7:30pm GMT.

Real are playing away from home in La Liga that day, in action against Huesca earlier in the afternoon.
