COP26 Glasgow: Which world leaders and celebrities are attending the climate change conference?

Glasgow is to host COP26 in November over a period of 12 days with world leaders and climate change activists all descending on Scottish soil for the event.

The two week long event, which will be held from November 1 until November 12, will see the likes of Nicola Sturgeon, Joe Biden and The Queen attend to discuss and create goals to slow down climate change in accordance with the Paris Agreement which seeks to keep the global rise in temperatures below 1.5C.

COP26 will be hosted at Glasgow SEC with security around the building due to the high-profile event and those attending.

But who will be attending COP26 - here's a list of everyone we know so far...

Will Nicola Sturgeon be attending COP26?

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will of course be at COP26 as it's her home city and it is said that during the event in November she will play a key role.

Asked about what role Sturgeon would play, Alok Sharma, who is organising COP26 on behalf of the UK Government, said: "Prime Minister Johnson has said he wants all the First Ministers to play an important part, and there is work going on at an official level looking at this."

Will Joe Biden be attending COP26 in Glasgow?

Yes, Joe Biden will attend COP26 although the American President has said that he is "really anxious to attend in Glasgow in November".

Will The Queen and Prince Charles be attending COP26?

The Queen will attend COP26 as the head of state for the UK alongside her son, Charles, The Prince of Wales.

Will Boris Johnson be attending COP26?

The UK's Prime Minister Boris Johnson will attend the climate change conference in Glasgow after he stated that the world needs to "come together in a collective coming of age" to limit a global rise in temperatures to 1.5C.

He said: "The world - this precious blue sphere with its eggshell crust and wisp of an atmosphere - is not some indestructible toy, some bouncy plastic romper room against which we can hurl ourselves to our heart's content,"

Will Emmanuel Macron be attending COP26?

The French President is expected to be welcomed with open arms by Johnson as he attends COP26.

Will Pope Francis be attending COP26?

The Pope is expected to travel to COP26 if his health permits him to do so, having undergone colon surgery earlier this year.

Will Sir David Attenborough be attending COP26?

The world's most loved climate activist and national treasure David Attenborough will visit Glasgow for the climate event as he is set to play a vital role as the COP26 People's Advocate as announced by the Government back in May of this year.

Will Greta Thunberg be attending COP26?

The Swedish environmental activist, known for challenging world leaders to take action, has said that COP26 "fortunately" takes place during the autumn holidays and hopes that she can "find time to meet with friends and climate activists" who are also attending.

In a recent interview with the BBC, she was asked whether or not she will be attending the conference in just two months time.

She replied: "If I go to COP, which I might do, then I along with many other young climate activists from all around the world will be putting pressure and saying what we have always said.

"If it's considered safe and democratic, then I will of course go there. The essence of this meeting should be all about climate justice, and of course we can't achieve climate justice if everyone is not contributing on the same terms.

"We get much more results when we meet in person - it's hard to argue against that. But of course if it's not safe, then we have to go for the safest option."
