Cop warns lockdown louts will be 'dealt with robustly' as Scots descend on beaches and parks

Scots police have warned lockdown louts that they will be ‘dealt with robustly’ as officers step up patrols on beauty spots after some restrictions were lifted.

People are now allowed to sunbathe at parks, beaches and various other beauty spots after the Scottish Government moved to phase one of its plan to reopen Scotland amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Additionally, Scots can meet one other household outside while picnics and barbecues have also been given the green light.

Police on the south Ayrshire coast have beefed up the number of officers as they anticipate a busy first weekend of restrictions being lifted.

South Ayrshire Police Chief Inspector Brian Anderson has issued a warning to people who may be tempted to indulge in ‘anti-social behaviour’ as a result.

In a video posted on Twitter, he said: “If you are coming to the parks and beaches of south Ayrshire over the weekend, please do so safely and adhere to the guidelines issued by the Scottish Government.

“A warning to those who will perhaps come to beaches and parks to engage in anti-social behaviour - this is not welcome and will be dealt with robustly by the additional officers who are on patrol throughout the course of the weekend.”

People have already flocked to a range of Scots beauty spots after lockdown restrictions were lifted on Friday.

Hundreds of people swarmed Portobello beach to make the most of what was the hottest day of the year so far.

More people are expected to descend on the country’s parks over the coming days as the heatwave is anticipated to continue into next week.
