Cop spit yob awaits his fate as sentence deferred

A youth spat at a police officer in Blantyre after being arrested for giving a false name.

Dylan McSkimming also taunted officers about not being able to do their job properly.

The 19-year-old, a prisoner, appeared from custody via videolink at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday.

He admitted threatening or abusive behaviour in Auchinraith Terrace on March 14.

McSkimming further admitted police assault and attempting to pervert the course of justice by providing false details.

Neil Thomson, prosecuting, said the incident happened around 1am after officers spoke to him about an unrelated matter.

They were suspicious about the name he gave and soon realised it was false.

Mr Thomson stated: "McSkimming's true identity was established and he was arrested.

"He then became aggressive towards the officers and began shouting at them.

"He said they were jobsworths and were paid a lot of money, but couldn't do their job right.

"As he was being taken in handcuffs to the police vehicle, he turned and spat towards one of the officers, the saliva landing on his sleeve."

McSkimming admitted previous convictions. In October last year he was given a supervision order for a string of charges including serious assault and robbery.

Sheriff Thomas Millar deferred sentence on the latest charges until May 28 and remanded McSkimming in custody.
