Cop’s ‘bleeding injury’ in case diary an oversight: Apoorva

HYDERABAD: SIT member and Wanaparthy SP K Apoorva Rao deposed before the SCappointed inquiry commission on Friday. When she was grilled about the nature of injuries received by constable Aravind Goud, she admitted that it was an oversight on her part to write in the case diary (CD) that Goud had suffered a bleeding injury.

The commission’s advocate drew the attention of Apoorva Rao to a CD written by her on December 9, 2019, in relation to the investigation into the case and asked what record had she inspected to arrive at the conclusion that Goud sustained a bleeding injury.

Apoorva Rao said she came to the conclusion after inspecting the CD and speaking to IO J Surender Reddy. During the subsequent questions posed by commission member Rekha Sondur Baldota about the nature of injury, Apoorva Rao said she collected the wound certificate (medico legal record dated Dec 6, 2019) of Goud through the IO and as per that, it was mentioned Goud had suffered “pain and tenderness in the left arm and shoulder.”

Interestingly, she also furnished another wound certificate issued by the same hospital for Goud on February 4, 2020. As per the second certificate, it was said: “At the time of admission, he was complaining of pain and tenderness in the left arm and shoulder. A CT scan suggested soft tissue injury of left shoulder and upper limb. A hairline fracture of inferior angle of left scapula.”

As there was no mention of any bleeding injury in both the certificates, Apoorva Rao said it was an oversight on her part.
