A DISQUALIFIED driver accused of twice ramming a police car at Windale on Thursday, injuring two police officers, has been refused bail in Newcastle Bail Court.
Zac Halliday, 22, of Belmont North, was allegedly behind the wheel of a Nissan Patrol 4WD that reversed into the front of an unmarked police car in Lake Street, Windale about 5pm on Thursday.
The officers had been attempting to pull over the driver of the Nissan before the crash, police said.
Police then followed the Nissan into nearby Belar Avenue where the Nissan stopped again in the middle of the road and again reversed into the front of the police car, this time causing extensive damage and disabling the police car.
Both police officers suffered minor injuries and were treated by paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital.
They have both since been released from hospital, police said.
Detectives launched an investigation and later located the Nissan at Belmont North.
The vehicle was seized for forensic examination and police later searched a unit at Belmont North, seizing a number of items which they say will be the subject of further investigation.
Following further inquiries, police stopped a Hyundai Getz at Warnervale about 2.50pm on Friday and arrested Mr Halliday in the front passenger seat.
He was charged with four offences, including using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention and was refused bail in Newcastle Bail Court on Saturday.
He has not entered pleas and will next appear in Belmont Local Court on Wednesday.
