Cop car 'carrying armed officers' collides with tourist bus in Edinburgh city centre

A cop car believed to be carrying armed officers has collided with a tour bus in Edinburgh.

Dramatic pictures show the smash between the Police Scotland vehicle and the Majestic tours coach in the capital's city centre while sunglass-wearing cops look on.

Edinburgh Live reports the crash happened around 5.30pm at St Andrew Square, close to the Wagamama restaurant.

Stunned tourists watched from the top deck as police speak to the bus driver in one image.

A second picture shows the police officers, dressed entirely in black, looking in the boot of the cop car.

The bus windscreen appears to have been smashed in the collision.

It's understood the cop car was carrying an armed response unit.

Multiple police cars are in the area, with a number of officers on the scene dealing with the incident.

One lane, used for turning right and heading down towards Queen Street, was blocked off as a result.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers are currently in attendance at a road crash involving a police vehicle and a bus at St Andrew Square in Edinburgh.

“The incident happened shortly after 5.25pm on Tuesday, 27 July and officers are currently at the scene with the Scottish Ambulance Service.”
