The season didn’t end the way the Rams hoped, but Cooper Kupp still capped off the year with another terrific performance in Los Angeles’ 27-24 loss to the 49ers. He caught seven passes for 118 yards and a touchdown, padding his already-incredible numbers.
Kupp finished the regular season with 145 catches for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns, one of the best campaigns ever by a wide receiver. He leads the NFL in every category, making him just the fourth player in the Super Bowl era (since 1970) to lead the league in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown catches.
The other three players are Jerry Rice (1990), Sterling Sharpe (1992) and Steve Smith (2005), putting Kupp in elite company. However, he unfortunately came up just short of Calvin Johnson’s single-season receiving record of 1,964 yards.
Kupp needed another 18 yards to break Johnson’s record, but it simply wasn’t in the cards for the Pro Bowl receiver. However, he still pushed past Julio Jones, Rice and Antonio Brown to finish with the second-most yards in a single season in league history.
Even with the extra game, this was one of the best seasons ever by a wide receiver. There’s still work to be done in the playoffs, but Kupp has plenty to hang his hat on after a historic regular season.
