Cooper Kupp matches feat last accomplished by Jerry Rice in 1990

There’s no way around it, the Los Angeles Rams looked abysmal in their loss to the Tennessee Titans in Week 9. While the Rams suffered their second defeat of the season, Cooper Kupp continued on his historic start to the campaign with another productive outing.

Kupp finished Sunday night with 11 receptions for 95 yards, giving him 74 receptions, 1,019 yards, and 10 touchdowns at the midway point in the season. The former third-round pick became the first player since Jerry Rice to have 1,000-plus receiving yards and 10-plus touchdowns through the first nine games of a season.

Rice achieved this feat back in 1990 with the San Francisco 49ers. The Hall of Fame wideout had 62 catches, 1,006 yards, and 11 touchdowns in his first nine games of the season, which included a game where he had 13 catches, 225 yards and five touchdowns.

Back in 1990, Rice would conclude the season with 100 receptions, 1,502 yards and 13 touchdowns. As of right now, Kupp is on pace to record 140 receptions, 1,925 yards, and 18 touchdowns this season.

Even though it was a downtrodden performance from the Rams in Week 9, Kupp deserves some praise for how historically good he’s been through the first nine weeks of the season. It’s always crazy to be mentioned in the same sentence as Rice when you play the wide receiver position.
