Cooper Kupp congratulates George Kittle on record contract

The 49ers and George Kittle agreed to a tight end-record five-year extension worth $75 million on Thursday, assuring that the All-Pro tight end will be around to provide the Rams with headaches for the foreseeable future. Kittle has dominated the Rams in the past three seasons, catching at least four passes for 79 yards in five of his six games against Los Angeles.

Although the Rams probably aren’t thrilled about having to face Kittle twice a year for the next five years, Cooper Kupp congratulated his fellow 2017 draftee on Twitter. He made sure to let Kittle know that the Rams are still coming after the 49ers twice a year, though.

Kittle responded by saying he wants to swap jerseys with Kupp, though the two will have to find a way around the NFL’s rules preventing players from exchanging gear after games.

Kupp has only played three games against the 49ers and in those contests, he’s caught a total of 10 passes on 12 targets for 65 yards with one touchdown. He missed both matchups in 2018 due to a knee injury, as well as the season finale in 2017 due to rest, and this past season, San Francisco limited Kupp to just eight catches for 48 yards and a touchdown.

Unlike Kittle, Kupp is entering the final year of his contract, so his tenure with the Rams isn’t certain beyond this season. Hopefully the Rams make a similar commitment to their wide receiver as the 49ers did with Kittle.
