Cooper Kupp among NFL’s best WRs vs. single coverage

Somewhat quietly, Cooper Kupp has gotten off to a good start in 2020. He doesn’t have the numbers of Stefon Diggs, DK Metcalf or Amari Cooper, who lead the league in receiving yards per game, but Kupp has been as reliable as usual.

He’s caught 23 of his 28 targets for 297 yards and two touchdowns, with 172 of his yards coming after the catch – fourth-best among all receivers. Running most of his routes out of the slot, he’s often working in traffic and sometimes sees double teams with a corner underneath and a safety over the top.

But when he gets single coverage, he feasts. According to Pro Football Focus, Kupp has the second-best grade among all receivers against single coverage. Only Adam Thielen has been better through four weeks.

Kupp does have one drop thus far and his average depth of target is a career-low 6.1, but he’s done a nice job after the catch and has broken two tackles. His passer rating when targeted of 134.7 is a career-best and one of the top marks in the league.

With Kupp and Robert Woods under contract for several more years, Jared Goff is in good shape with a really good tandem of receivers.
