Coombe Hospital IT systems 'locked down' after overnight cyber attack

The Coombe Hospital's IT systems are 'locked down' after it was targeted by a cyber attack overnight.

All of the hospitals computers have been locked down "on a precautionary basis".

All services in the hospital are continuing as normal, and they are working with the HSE to resolve the issue.

A spokesperson for the hospital said: "The Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital can confirm that it has been the subject of a cyberattack overnight.

"We wish to reassure all of those accessing our services that these services are continuing as normal.

"We have locked down all our IT systems on a precautionary basis and are working closely with the HSE to resolve this matter."

A HSE spokesperson said the attack has impacted "several systems" in the hospital.

They said: "We are aware of a ransomware attack on IT systems at the Coombe. This has impacted several systems in the hospital.

"HSE teams are working with colleagues in the Coombe and have disconnected the facility from the National Health Network.

"At this point we have not seen evidence of an impact external to the Coombe Hospital but we are continuing, with external support, to assess whether there is any broader impact. We will share further information as we have it."

The Coombe is not the first Dublin maternity hospital to be hit by a cyber attack.

In May, the Rotunda battled a huge ransomware malfunction which is impacted all of the hospital's systems and records.

Many appointments were cancelled while staff tried to resolve the issue.
