Coolock shooting sting sees 5 arrested in attempted murder investigation

Gardai have made five arrests into the investigation surrounding the attempted murder of a known criminal in Dublin in May 2020.

The arrests, the first made in the probe into the shooting, were made as part of a garda sting in north Dublin this morning.

The victim, Michael Brennan, was shot in the Cromcastle Drive area of Kilmore, Coolock a number of times after a man forced his way into a house on 20 May 2020.

The 32-year-old has had previous run ins with the law and was jailed for 10 years in 2010 for the attempted murder of a man.

It is believed that the shooting was part of an ongoing feud between gangs from the Kilmore/Cromcastle areas and the Priorswood/Darndale areas of Coolock.

There have been four men and one woman arrested in connection with the incident and they are being held in numerous garda stations.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí from Ballymun have made five arrests as part of an ongoing investigation into the attempted murder of a man (30s) at Cromcastle Drive, Kilmore. The injured man was shot a number of times when a lone male forced his way into this house at approximately 2pm on Wednesday 20th May, 2020.

"The five, four men (two aged in their 30s, one 40s and one 20s) and a woman (30s), were arrested during an operation in north Dublin this morning, Tuesday 6th April 2021.

"They are currently detained under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007 and at various Garda Stations throughout the DMR North Division and can be held for up to seven days.

"Today’s arrests are the first in the case to date. The injured man has since recovered from the incident.

"The investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow."
