Coolock raid sees €117k nabbed by gardai and man arrested on suspicion of money laundering

Over €117,000 has been found and a man arrested following a raid in north Dublin yesterday.

Gardai along with a pooch from the dog unit carried out the search at an address in Coolock and also found a vehicle and Rolex watch.

The man, aged 35, is currently being held at Coolock garda station on suspicion of involvement in money laundering.

Gardai have said that the find is another step in their investigation into organised crime groups in the capital.

A garda spokesman said: "On 16th January 2021, in the course of ongoing investigations targeting persons suspected to be involved in organised crime, the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) supported by the Garda Dog Unit conducted a search at an address in the Coolock area of Dublin.

"In the course of this search, cash to a value of €117,000 was located and seized, along with one vehicle and a Rolex watch.

"One male, aged 35 years, was arrested on suspicion of involvement in money laundering related offence, contrary to the provisions of section 7, Criminal Justice (Money Laundering & Terrorist Financing) Act, 2010. He is currently detained under Section 4 of Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Coolock Garda Station."

Speaking today Assistant Commissioner John O’Driscoll, head of Organised and Serious Crime, said: "We continue to target those causing most harm in our community. This seizure of a significant quantity of cash will, we believe, contribute to the disruption and potential ultimate dismantling of particular organised crime groups that we continue to target, building on earlier success achieved, in recent years”.
