Cool stay of the week: an off-the-grid log cabin in a Cumbrian forest

If you’re in need of a digital detox, then you need to escape to this week’s Cool Stay of the Week.

Located in an ancient Cumbrian forest near the market town of Longtown just north of Carlisle, the Shank Wood Lodge Cabin has no TV, no internet and no phone signal which means you can take time to completely switch off.

Make sure you bring a good book and lounge in the comfy living room or sit out on the deck and let yourself be consumed by the sounds of the forest around you.

Cook dinner on the outdoor BBQ before retiring to the upstairs mezzanine floor which sleeps four people in two double beds.

You’ll find the bathroom outside in a private bathroom pod that has a hot shower, toilet and sink so you can shower while admiring the greenery around you.

If you find yourself missing civilisation, the Lake District National Park is just a 50-minute drive away, where you can go to a pub for lunch, or try out one of the many hiking or cycling tracks.

Where: near Carlisle

How much: from 3150 - £210 per night

Sleeps: 4
