Cool stay of the week: an idyllic converted Buttery near Cambridge

Cambridge is the ideal place for a weekend break from London, as it's less than an hour away by train with rail tickets for under £20 return.

Which is why for this week’s Cool Stay of the Week, we’re escaping the stresses of city life and nesting in a restored former Buttery in the Cambridgeshire countryside.

Rural, yet not too remote, traditional yet contemporary, this property makes a perfect location for a romantic break.

Exposed bricks and oak beams ensure the character of this cottage has been retained, with underfloor heating, a wood burner (with a basket of logs) and sheep wool insulation to keep you snug and warm as you cuddle up on the large fawn sofa.

The surrounding farmland offers wonderful views and the open-plan home has a well-equipped farmhouse-style kitchen to make meals that can be enjoyed by candlelight at the circular dining table or outside in the cottage's private garden.

In the bedroom, you’ll find soft throws, silk duvets and linen sheets that will guarantee a deep, uninterrupted sleep. The marble-clad ensuite bathroom is bright, stylish and modern, with a large sink, plenty of lighting and complimentary toiletries.

The Buttery has a private pool and an idyllic country location (CoolStays)

The Cambridgeshire countryside has an abundance of country walks and pretty villages with great pubs serving good food. Close to The Buttery is the picturesque village of Horningsea, home to a lovely pub, The Crown and the Punchbowl, which is known for its good food.

Just three miles away is the historic city of Cambridge. This famous city has an abundance of shops, restaurants, and world-class museums, but no trip to Cambridge would be complete without a taking a punt on the River Cam.
