Cool stay of the week: a very modern treehouse in rural Wales

A tranquil haven in the Welsh countryside, Cadwollens Treehouse is our pick for this week’s Cool Stay of the Week.

Set six miles from the nearest village, views of rolling hills and vast green fields await - and the outdoor hot tub makes it the perfect rural escape for a couple.

A beautiful copper bathtub stands pride of place before the enormous windows that span the front of the house and looks out over acres of stunning countryside. When the sun starts to set, get a fire going in the fire pit, relax in the hammock or toast some marshmallows.

Equipped with everything you could need for a comfortable self-catering holiday, the living area is bright and airy thanks to its floor-to-ceiling windows.

The double bedroom is located on the mezzanine level and features a luxurious king-size bed. From here, the spectacular views over the countryside are still visible through the large windows. The bathroom features a large shower, however, a second shower is located outside on the deck.

The living area extends into a fully-equipped kitchen with a cosy breakfast bar. The closest shop is around six miles away, so you can easily stock up on supplies for your stay, however, the remote location doesn’t mean you’re limited to eating in. There are plenty of options in the local villages, such as The Horse and Jockey in Knighton.

The treehouse sits near a Site of Special Scientific Interest and guests are encouraged to climb to the top of the hill for stunning views and to get your bearings. Venture out into Elan Valley which offers miles of spectacular walking trails, not to mention the magnificent dam and reservoir system which showcases the best of Victorian engineering. With beautiful scenery all around you’ll quickly see why this is a favourite with landscape photographers.

There are plenty of opportunities to explore the local flora and fauna just by getting out into the countryside. If you arrange your trip at the right time, you can arrange to meet the local lambs. Or, if you prefer, just relax in the hot tub and see if you can get a glimpse of a red kite as they soar overhead.
