The pretty Plum Cottage, plonked near the coast of Dorset, is our pick for Cool Stay of the Week this week.
Set on the outskirts of Wimborne Minster in Dorset, the cottage is located on the Deans Court estate, just seven miles from the coast at Poole.
While the cottage itself sleeps four, guests will discover a cosy shepherd’s hut in the garden that will sleep two others - a perfect getaway for a party of six.
With views across the Stour Valley, and the namesake river nearby, the picturesque centre of Wimborne Minster is a short ramble away. Here you’ll find café terraces around the main square, and a smattering of restaurants and independent shops, too.
This 18th century cottage feels homely, with vintage furnishings and rustic touches adding to the vibe. A welcome basket with local treats like bread, jam, free-range eggs, tea and coffee will be waiting for you on arrival.
The country kitchen is well equipped and the inviting lounge provides a TV and a comfy, cushion-laden sofa by the fireplace. A double and a twin bedroom can be found in the cottage, the latter furnished with bunk beds adding an extra element of fun for the younger members of the family.
Someone, however, is likely to have their eyes set on the shepherd’s hut which offers a small but cleverly designed retreat for a couple, as well as a little more privacy. Set in walled gardens with an adjacent orchard, Plum Cottage enjoys a pleasing setting. You can enjoy some time sitting out in the garden, appreciating the peace and quiet.
When you do head into town, you can visit the miniature Model Town, Tivoli Theatre or, of course, the Minster itself – as well as an impressive number of local pubs and bars.The wonderful beaches of the Jurassic Coast, and many of Dorset’s heritage properties are within reach too.
Wimborne Minster lies around halfway between Salisbury and Dorchester, each less than 45 minutes away, and just half an hour from Bournemouth, giving you plenty to choose from when planning your days out.
