In preparation for the beginning of summer, masks that cool their users down a bit have been created.
Yamagata Prefecture, famous for hair salons that offer "chilled shampoo" treatments," began Thursday the sale of "cool masks," which have pockets containing ice packs. Knit・waizu Ltd., a knitted garment manufacturer in the town of Yamanobe, using the cloth masks they requested from a local sewing factory, attached pockets in the cheek areas to place ice packs so that wearers can experience a cool and refreshing feeling.
Knit・waizu generally produces sweaters and other knitted items, but has seen a decrease in work due to the spread of the new coronavirus. The company has begun producing fabric masks in mid-March and selling them chilled at vending machines located in areas such as the front of the company. As a result, roughly 400 masks were sold each day. The item released on Thursday costs 1,300 yen (including tax) and is a set of four ice packs with one cloth mask in a bottle. "This product is unique to Yamagata Prefecture's 'cool' culture. I want people to enjoy themselves as they get through the hot season," Katsuyuki Goto, managing director of the company said.
