Cool cars 'can lead to hot dates'

IT SEEMS your wheels could have a big impact on your love life.

One in seven Scots drivers has admitted they’ve dated someone because they had a nice car, according to a study. A further one in five agreed that having a decent motor makes someone more appealing.

The research found that Audi, Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz were considered the most attractive marques among motorists north of the Border.

Meanwhile, Kia emerged as the brand that turned off Scots the most – and yellow and green are the colours to avoid when it comes to your car’s paintjob.

But it appears we’re not quite as shallow as motorists across the UK as a whole. In the survey of more than 2000 British drivers for carwow.co.uk, one in five admitted to having previously dated someone because they had a nice car.

A further one in four also agreed that having a nice car makes someone instantly more attractive. And while just over half of romantics asserted no type of car would impact on their levels of attraction towards a partner, the remaining 46 per cent were happy to list their top brands.

The hottest car models were the Aston Martin Vanquish (11 per cent), Audi R8 Spider (seven per cent), Ford Mustang (six per cent) and Jaguar F-Type Coupe (five per cent).

Black (20 per cent), red (12 per cent) and blue (10 per cent) proved the most popular car colours to capture attention. In terms of dating sites and apps, two fifths said they’d be more likely to “swipe right” or “like” someone with a nice car.

A carwow social experiment using a simple dating website it built featuring images of two volunteers alongside high, mid and low-range motors also significantly reinforced the survey findings.

Relationships expert Tracey Cox said: “Cars have long been known as a status symbol and a great shorthand way to gauge someone’s personality.”
