Cookstown Recycling Centre fire results in closure of facility

A fire at a recycling centre in Co Tyrone has forced the centre to remain closed until further notice.

Crews from NI Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene at Cookstown Recycling Centre on Saturday evening after reports of a fire at the site on Molesworth Street.

The fire was brought under control and was isolated to the wood stock pile at the site and no-one was injured.

However with a significant clean-up operation underway, the Council say the site will remain closed at present.

A spokesperson for Mid Ulster District Council said: "Following last night’s fire at Cookstown Recycling Centre, the centre will remain closed until further notice.

"We will keep customers updated when we have a re-opening date and apologise for any inconvenience."
